QUT Civil Engineers in Demand polled a sample of 42 final year students about their habits in finding graduate employment. The results can be seen above.
Two-thirds of the graduating students have already secured full-time employment when they graduate. One third are yet to find employment. 9 in 10 employed students say they found work within 3 months, with the majority conducting their job search purely on the internet, or relying on contacts they have through the industry.
Professional Engineers' association membership is at 75% among the student body. Two-thirds of students believe they would be more successful if they joined a student-driven organisation of civil engineering students. This is why we created QUT Civil Engineers in Demand.
The aim of QUT Civil Engineers in Demand is to increase the prospects of the 33% of students without employment by increasing their exposure to people within the industry, as well as preparing them for writing effective resumes, and conducting great interviews. We believe the employment rate of civil engineering graduates should be 100%, and as such we will provide the resources for every engineering student to ensure they have their best opportunity to be employed.
